Trolley History
The original public transit system of Cheyenne was the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley System of 1887. These were carriages connected to a light rail that were pulled.by a horse or mule. The 1st run was from the Depot to the Capitol carrying Legislators. Five years later the company was deemed unprofitable.
After a 16-year hiatus, trolleys returned with the incorporation of the Cheyenne Electric Railway Company. These newfangled vehicles traveled on rails. They fulfilled a need for transportation to Ft DA Russell from town. The company operated multiple lines and had an amusement park, conveniently located at the end of a spur line. The company was purchased and transformed into a bus line by 1929.
